Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 7:48 AM - Murali Castro: Tellurium metallicum
Tellurium.

Origin : Found throughout the world.
Background : Klaproth named this rare
mineral in 1798 from the Greek tellus, or
“earth,” as a counterpart to his discovery
in 1789 of uranium (named from the
Greek ouranos, or “heaven”).
Preparation : Tellurium is triturated with
lactose sugar.
Remedy Profile : Tellurium met. is most
appropriate for people who are excitable
and irritable, with a disposition that is
sometimes described as “rough and
angular.”
Skin disorders are the characteristic
focus of Tellurium met., including
conditions such as psoriasis, ringworm,
herpes, and eczema on the eyelids and
behind the ears. A key symptom
associated with the remedy is a
characteristic smell of garlic in the
perspiration, which tends to burn and
irritate the skin. Skin symptoms are often
circular or ring- shaped, and may occur
in conjunction with severe back pain.
The remedy may also be used for back
pain that is typically worse for coughing,
sneezing, or straining when passing a
stool. It may help back pain after injury,
spinal irritation, ruptured intervertebral
disks, and pain that radiates down the
legs. In addition, it may be effective for
eye and ear infections, especially ear
infections that produce a discharge that
smells like fish brine.
Symptoms Better : For lying quietly.
Symptoms Worse : For cold; for touch;
for lying on the affected area.

Tellurium (stage 16: decay; ragged
and rotten; live lazily in bygone days of
glory and demand back what they think is
still theirs, tempting, theorizing).

Case :

A man of
75; he was a philologist for historic
languages (st13-16, ss) who neglected
himself (st16). I did not see this man; his
wife told me about her problems with him.
She had to care of him, because he had
become so lazy (st16) that he neglected
(st16) everything. He only liked to read
his old and fanciful looks (tell). She gave
me a sample of his handwriting, which
confirmed the suspected remedy
Tellurium. She sent me a postcard two
weeks after Tellurium MK , stating that he
was slowly beginning to clean up his
mess and was returning to a better
standard of order. She also wrote that he
was beginning to "clean up his past". She
was very happy about the change. She
also noted that his hearing had improved.
The case is a recent observation and only
dates back nine months. So the famous ’
ragged philosopher’ is not only Sulphur.

Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 9:37 AM - Murali Castro: Jan scholten periodic table view

The name is derived from the Latin word
Tellus meaning earth. It was discovered in
1782. It is heavier than Iodum although it
has a lower atomic number. It has some
metallic and some non-metallic
properties. It is quite similar to Selenium.
It is used together with Selenium and
Bismuth to make tiny refrigeration units
based on thermo electric effects. Other
uses are: radio detectors, silver alloys to
retain shine, disinfectants. Coloring of
silver bromide in photography and semi-
conductors. It increases the electrical and
heat conductivity when it is combined
with other metals. It is also used as a
catalyst in the vulcanization of rubber.

Essence:
Neglecting Your Creativity
The loss of creativity

They feel that their creations are no
longer accepted by the general public.
They have come to the end of their career
and it is only the goodwill of the people
that keeps them going. They are not taken
seriously anymore. They don't take
themselves seriously either, but they still
get very angry when they are not being
accepted or understood. This feeling often
comes about after several big projects
have failed. It can also be the situation of
someone who has had it too easy, who
has never had to exert himself to create
something and who therefore doesn't take
his own talents very seriously.
Neglected as an artist
They often give their power away so they
no longer have a grip on what is
happening. Or they handed over their
financial affairs to an agent so they no
longer have a say in the matter. This is
also a way of handing over responsibility.
Experimental art: extravagant
They become interested in experimental
art. They have grown tired of the well-
trodden paths and are searching for
freedom by indulging in all sorts of
experiments. They are really different from
the rest. Their creations are extraordinary.
They are the musicians who like to
improvise. It also saves them the trouble
of having to study and rehearse their
pieces, so it makes life a lot easier. They
tend to be quite provocative; they like to
see the reaction when they produce
something strange. They like to lure their
audience with clever tricks.
Neglecting their unique creativity
Their creativity is going downhill and they
tend to neglect it. In the beginning they
will continue to make new designs, but
they don't bother with the final product
anymore. Their presentation become more
and more shabby and disorganized and
they don't take themselves seriously
anymore. Later on their designs become
fewer and fewer because they think that it
is wasted on the general public anyway.
Fantasies and memories of the good old
days of fame
Eventually all that is left is the memory of
the old days when they were still famous.
They tend to fantasies about all sorts of
abstracts ideas, about art and about the
things they would have created. It is a
dream world in which they create the
most wonderful things. And when others
remind them that these days are over they
feel very upset.
Expecting admiration
They expect to be admired, even if they do
very little to deserve it. If their
experimental and extravagant designs
aren't immediately recognized as
something very special they become
indifferent towards their audience. They'll
become slack and careless because they
expect to be dismissed anyway. This
careless presentation causes the public to
lose interest very quickly and so they get
into a vicious circle. They make very little
effort to convince people that what they
are presenting is really something
worthwhile. They expect others to
recognize the uniqueness of their
creations without any further explanation.
And so they become indifferent to fame
and admiration. They may even provoke
the public and create an adverse reaction.
Eventually they start to neglect
themselves and turn into a shabby artist.
Hence their own dislike for shabby types,
drug users and other down and outs.
Living on past reputations
Although they know that they have lost the
fame they once had, they simply can't
believe it. I used to make the most
wonderful things; I used to be really
famous, where has it all gone? They
prefer to live in the past, the world of
memories is infinitely better than the
present reality.
The veteran sportsman
This is the top sportsman after his career
has come to an end. He still plays in the
odd veteran competition or charity
tournament, but all that is left of the great
days is memories and photograph albums.

Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 10:15 AM - Murali Castro: Case :

Maricela, a sixty-five year old woman, had
been suffering from right-sided sciatic
pain since July, 1996. The pain travelled
from the low back down the back of the
thigh to the ankle. She could only fall
asleep on her left side and if she turned
on to the right, the pain woke her. The
pain was worse lifting a moderately heavy
suitcase, worse sneezing and worse
straining at stool. Her symptoms
corresponded to Tellurium an element on
the periodic table. In its homeopathic form
Tellurium is known to cure sciatica on the
right side which is worse from coughing
and straining.
In July, 1997, she was given a single
dose and improved dramatically within
days. Seven months later, she relapsed.
She noted she had to sleep in a semi-
reclined position, otherwise, on waking
and rising from bed she experienced a
sharp, sudden pain beginning in the low
back and extending down the right leg. As
before, the pain was worse from coughing,
sneezing and pressing at stool. She also
mentioned she liked apples. All her
symptoms again fit Tellurium including the
love of apples. Two days after another
dose, she was able to sleep flat and rise
from bed without pain. At one month, she
was seventy-five percent better. She went
on to a full recovery. Again in 2012 she
had a recurrence of the right-sided sciatic
pain and again Tellurium put her right
within days.
Tellurium is one of the lesser used
homeopathic medicines and has won
most of its laurels in the treatment of
sciatic nerve pain. As always in
homeopathy, Tellurium will not cure all or
even most sciatic nerve pains. The
homeopath must inquire into all aspects
of the pain and the person.
In the case of Maricela, Tellurium acted so
swiftly and her improvement was so
dramatic that when she came to me in
February, 1998, for allergies and loss of
voice, I thought I’d give Tellurium a try
even though it is not well-known in that
area. Again, it acted with the allergies
ceasing with a few days.
The conclusion I drew from treating both
Maricela’s right-sided sciatica and her
allergies was that Tellurium was probably
her constitutional medicine, that is, a
medicine that corresponds so well to the
person that it will alleviate or cure most
medical problems that the person has or
will have.
Homeopathy–it often acts globally helping
all aspects of the person.

While  case taking we can easily notice the grief or we can collect it from bystanders, but after repeated probing they will open out.
Undemonstrated grief------------------- means there is a lot of grief inside the person, but she never shows that there is grief. Nobody knows that there is grief. That is typical of Cyclamen.
We can’t imagine that they have suffered from immense grief .nobody knows even you and their relatives and friends. While case taking we may get surprise and shock when we touches the sensitivity they will open out.

Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 11:57 AM - Murali Castro: case of Kent

A boy, 4, slid down banisters and
struck his head on a tiled floor.
He became unconscious and a
surgeon was summoned, who found him
in that state and with a clear, watery
discharge from the ear, which the surgeon
pronounced to be cerebrospinal fluid.
This condition lasted three days, and
the case had been pronounced hopeless
when Kent first saw the boy.
Kent noticed that the discharge was
acrid, and reddened whatever part it came
in contact with.
One dose of Tell. was given.
In two hours the child vomited, a sign
of reaction, and in two weeks was well.

Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 1:03 PM - Murali Castro: The most characteristic form of the
skin irritation of Tell. is herpes circinatus,
and it has probably cured more cases of
ringworm, especially of the face and body,
than any other remedy.
(I cured with Tell. an Indian officer
home on furlough whose body was
covered over with a ringworm-like
eruption.) The odor of the body and of the
sweat is offensive and garlic-like.
The prover had to sit apart from the
rest of the class during a whole session
on account of this.
In parts where the skin forms
openings, as the ear, the effect of Tell. is
intensified.
The characteristic odor of the ear
discharge is that of fish brine.
The discharge is so acrid it vesicates
any part of the skin it touches.
Tell. is one of the most important
remedies in otorrhoea.
Nash cured several cases of post-
scarlatinal otorrhoea, using the 6th, higher
attenuations having failed.

Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 5:06 PM - Balasubramanian: Peculiar symptom

Some fifteen years back a barber patient
of mine related to me the woeful plight of
a leading M.B.B.S. doctor of Ambala. The
doctor was suffering from Sciatica of the
left side, was confined to bed and in
desperation had pulled down the shutters
of his clinic. My barber patient knew all
the details as he resided in the garage of
the doctor, I learnt from him that the
physician had remained under treatment
at AIIMS Delhi for about a month, but to
no avail. I readily offered my services if
the doctor should not mind taking
Homoeopathic medicine. Subsequently, on
the persuasion of my patient I was sent
for examination. After a careful
observation of the location, the specificity
and direction of the pain, I found it
radiating downwards from the lumbar
region to the lateral side of the leg. This,
for me, was sufficient indication of
Tellurium. I gave him Tellurium 1M to be
taken at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. followed by
two doses in the next morning at 8 and
11 a.m. and six SL to be taken 3 hourly.
The pain which was so excruciating
disappeared within ten days. After about
fifteen days when the patient suffered
slight pains, again a dose of Tellurium
10M was administered. Thence forward
no other treatment was given. The doctor
started attending his clinic regularly. All
these years there has been no relapse.
Again mental and emotional symptoms
were hardly attended to.

Miss Y., 29, who had severe
spinal meningitis ten years before,
consulted Shelton for a burning, pressing
pain at base of brain.
He diagnosed the condition as
pachymeningitis.
The patient grew worse, and gradually
ptosis, and then right and then left
hemiplegia set in.
Finally hyperesthesia of the back
became so distressing that it was a
question of finding any support that did
not intensify the pain.
She could not bear the slightest
touch, complaining that it not only hurt
her at the point of contact, but she felt it
in the head and in remote parts of the
body.
Tell. cleared up the case.

She was kept in bed for some weeks
and improved generally, but the painful
spot remained and sensitiveness
appeared over the back, especially its
upper third.
Tell. 6 cured all completely.

Cyclamen europeum

Cyclamen europeum, a plant belonging to
the Primulaceae family, forms the basis of
the homeopathic remedy cyclamen. This
species is also known by several other
names, such as ivy-leafed cyclamen,
groundbread, sowbread and swinebread.
This plant is native to the regions having
temperate climatic conditions and is found
growing in North Africa, North America and
central regions of Europe. The woodlands
and shady and humid gardens are ideal
for the plant to thrive as well as flourish.
Many people also grow this plant indoors
as decorative items and it is valued for its
multi-colored and veined leaves as well
as the vivid pastel hued flowers whose
petals fold backward. The tuberous corms
of the plant are used to prepare the
homeopathic remedy cyclamen, which is
believed to be an effective medicine for
treating several health conditions, such as
stomach disorders, vision problems,
anxiety, nervousness and even menstrual
problems.
It may often be somewhat tricky to grow
the cyclamen europeum plant in the
garden. Nevertheless, when this plant is
grown in the gardens, it lights up the
entire area owing to its attractive leaves
and flowers. In fact, the multi-colored and
veined leaves as well as the pastel hued
flowers of Cyclamen europeum have made
this plant popular among gardeners. This
plant has the aptitude to grow and thrive
in an assortment of climatic conditions
(temperatures ranging from 10°F (-12°C)
to as high as 100°F (37.7°C). Light,
loamy dirt is considered to be the most
suitable soil for this plant to grow.
However, Cyclamen europeum will only
flourish provided that the plant is placed
in a shady area where the soil is moist -
neither drenched, nor extremely sandy or
arid. In addition, the corm as well as the
tuberous root of Cyclamen europeum is
susceptible to decay and mildew when the
plant is grown in soil that is excessively
moist as well as when grown indoors. In
such situations as well as when the plant
is grown in a dark room, the leaves of
Cyclamen europeum have a tendency to
wilt and become yellowish.

In the ancient times, the Romans, Greeks
as well as the Arabian physicians used
this flowering plant extensively to treat
liver problems, such as hepatitis and
jaundice ; enlarged spleen; phlegm as well
as to encourage menstruation.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 8:47 AM - Karuppaiah Dr: Cyclamen

The keynotes of this remedy is hiccough+ Ignatia like symptoms. This remedy is apparently very similar to pulsattilla. These patient do not want to go out  of the house for any reason. The left eye turns towards the nose of the patient , and there is an allergy to cats. This patients will mock sad incidents , and are very cynical- often they will say that they don't want to get well.

Dr. Sunirnal Sarkar.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 8:55 AM - Sundari Dr: CYCLAMEN is very similar to Pulsatilla. They are both suited to chlorotic and anaemic women, and they both have some trouble with the digestion, and intolerance of fatty foods. The menstrual colic and irregularities are almost identical in the two drugs. The same kind of melancholy is common to both. Cyclamen may be distinguished from Pulsatilla by these symptoms: Generally but not always, there is more thirst with the Cyclamen patient. The Pulsatilla patient feels better in the open air, the Cyclamen does not. The Cyclamen patients suffer from a peculiar kind of debility or torpidity, both of mind and body, with languor. They cannot think. They are better when aroused and forced to exercise. "When they get up in the morning they feel so heavy and languid that they feel as though they could scarcely go through the day's duties, but when they once get to work they go on tolerably well until night time. That is Cyclamen, and it is very much like Helonias. They suffer, too, from dulness of the senses with flickering before the eyes in weak anaemic women. They see various colors before the eyes, very much as under SANTONINE. Sometimes they have half-sight. The indigestion with which they are troubled has this to characterize it: formation of flatus which causes colic at night, forcing the patient to get up and walk about for relief.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 10:51 AM - Murali Castro: Case

A 35-year-old lady consulted Dr Prabha
Patwardhan for recurrent coughs with
congestion and fever and occasional
attacks of wheezing since the past 2
years. The complaints were worse in
summer. She also complained of acidity,
fullness and burning sensation in right
epigastrium < eating even small quantities
of food, since past 2 years, < spices and
< tensions. She had depression and mood
swings < before menses. Menses were
regular but heavy, clotted and painful. Has
leucorrhoea 10 days before menses.
Disturbed sleep. Allergic asthma. Had
suffered from typhoid and had tonsil
operation and appendicectomy.
Life Situation:
The patient had a disturbed childhood;
parents had a lot of marital problems. Her
father, an alcoholic, used to beat his wife
and children. One of her brothers became
a drug addict and did not have a steady
job. She could not see her mother being
beaten up and hence would hide behind a
newspaper. She was afraid that her
mother would go away from home. Once
her mother took sleeping pills to end it
all. She had an extra marital affair when
patient was 12 y. Once she left to go to
her own mother’s place and returned only
because of the patient. The patient felt
guilty that her mother was suffering
because of her. She wept while narrating
all this.
She was dark in complexion and was
sensitive when someone spoke badly
about her looks. After marriage she
developed good relations with her
mother-in-law, but when the latter fell ill,
the mother in law complained that the
patient did not care enough for her, in
spite of the fact that the patient took very
good care of her. This added to the
patient’s guilt for no fault of hers. If her
children did not do well in school, she felt
responsible. She also blamed herself for
her poor sexual life. She had a feeling that
both her husband and mother-in-law
were doing more housework than her.
She had dreams of death and palpitations
after a close cousin’s death; dreamt about
mother being ill and being unable to cope
with it; dreamt about her father’s illness
and woke up feeling that she could not do
enough for him. Dreams of falling.

Case Analysis:
The essence of the case is the feeling of
guilt that the patient has harboured from
her childhood, blaming herself for
everything, right from her mother putting
up with her father’s beatings, the illness
of mother-in-law, to her children’s poor
performance in school etc. She feels that
she has committed a crime. Dreams also
show that she feels that she had
neglected her duty towards her family.
She also fear or sense of being forsaken
when she felt that her mother would leave
her father, or when her mother went away
to her parents’ place.
The Rubrics Are:
(SRI 327) Delusion, neglected his duty, he
has
(SRI69) Anxiety, conscience, as if guilty of
a crime
(SRI 260) Delusion, crime committed a, he
had
(SRI 260) Del, criminal he is a; Delusion,
wrong has done
(SRI 832) Reproaches himself
Cyclamen comes out prominently, when
one takes into account the menses
troubles also. The patient was given 3
doses of Cyclamen 30 and after 2 weeks
the patient reported that her asthma was
better and sleep had also improved.
Acidity was less.
3 more doses of the remedy in 200
potency to be taken as SOS, if complaints
recurred. They did not recur and the
patient was monitored regularly for a few
years and she was doing well. - IJHM

Phatak summarises the essence of this
remedy as "ill effects from inward grief
and terrors of conscience". Here is a
case, which exactly represents the above
essence and proved curative!

I went to the law of homeopathy and to the prophet HAHNEMANN

My patient was thirsty, her tongue was coated; she had nausea, headache, yawned a good deal, had continuous hiccough . complains of pain and fatigue in all her limbs
Her symptoms were very much alike  CYCLAMEN as given in materia medica pura  of Hahnemann

I therefore, gave cyclamen in third decimal and it nearly cured her. And finally to the 30th centecimal when no more remedy was needed for her hiccough.

A lady consulted Dr Rajan Sankaran for
sciatica and the severe pain she was
having. She was a college professor and a
very sincere worker. She alleged that her
senior was harassing her in many ways.
Her good manners, sincerity to work, and
suppressed anger indicated Staphysagria
but it did not work. At the next
consultation she said "This pain is
troubling me so much, it is not allowing
me to do my duty". As she felt that her
illness was preventing her from
discharging her duties, the doctor took
the following rubrics:
"Delusion, that she is persecuted";
"Delusion, that she has neglected her
duty"; "Anxiety of conscience, as if guilty
of a crime". He prescribed Cyclamen
which cured her of pain immediately

In the case of a 16 yr. old girl, the
menses got delayed and then ceased. She
lost her spirits, wanted to be alone and
was offended by trifles; no inclination to
do her usual work and she could not be
persuaded to leave her house for a walk.
She would sleep unusually late in the
morning. Complained of great lassitude
forcing her to rest frequently; palpitation
without cause; more interested in
seclusion and then she would weep.
During the forenoon, there was vertigo and
pressing pain in her head. She was
prescribed Cyclamen 15x and after a few
weeks her headache and vertigo became
less and menses returned and was
regular thereafter.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 4:46 PM - Murali Castro: Case 2:

A 50-year-old Catholic lady, headmistress
of a primary school, came for psoriasis in
Dec 1990, of 4 years standing, starting in
the neck and spreading to her scalp and
to nape of neck. The itching aggravated
with sweating and when she was tense.
She also complained of sciatica of the
right side, which was worse every
summer. Medical history showed that she
was operated unsuccessfully for bilateral
blocked fallopian tubes and later had to
undergo hysterectomy for fibroid in 1987.
She had severe menorrhagia, which
started around the time she had psoriasis.
She wakes up from sleep at 2-2.30 AM,
mulling over the events of the day, and
falls asleep when it is time to get up.
Life Situation:
Her parents were strict, but she was like a
tomboy, mischievous, fond of running
around and fighting with friends for which
she was punished and sometimes also for
no fault of hers. She used to feel that she
was not wanted. 7 years after her birth,
her mother gave birth to her sister and
she naturally had to attend to that baby,
which was not appreciated by the patient.
Then her mother had to leave her with her
father and aunt as she had to go with the
younger child to attend to her sick
mother-in-law ( Forsaken feeling ). Her
aunt who had no children of her own, did
not show any affection to the patient. The
patient became rude, defiant and irritable
and lagged behind in her studies, which
forced her mother to come back to handle
her. After graduation she became a
teacher and after 21 years of service
became the headmistress of the primary
school. She was conscientious and a
perfectionist, and at the same time, helpful
to others. The job gave her a lot of
tension and she felt frustrated as she felt
hampered in taking decisions. Psoriasis
developed after an incident in her school,
when she refused admission to some kids
without the customary interviews and their
parents came in a morcha and the school
management forced her to interview the
applicants. She went into depression for
which she was advised to take leave.
She felt guilty when she had to give
admissions under duress, when she could
have given the seats to more deserving
pupils. Once, a boy, while getting down
from the school bus was involved in an
accident but she blamed herself for that
accident. Secondly, her husband had
haemoptysis while her school was having
an inspection and he died before proper
medical treatment could be given. She did
not weep openly but wept bitterly inside.
She felt that she could have done more
for her husband and felt as if she had
committed a crime, and that because of
her pre-occupation with her school
inspection she had neglected her
husband.
She was initially prescribed Staphysagria
and Aurum on these symptoms with only
partial relief.
The main essence of the case was her
sense of duty and her feelings that on
some important occasions she had
neglected her duty and anxiety of
conscience of having committed a crime.
The Rubrics Are:
Delusion, that he is a criminal; as if he
had committed a crime; that he is
persecuted; that he has neglected his
duty. Conscientious about trifles; Anxiety
of conscience as if guilty of a crime;
Remorse and reproaches himself. Grief
undemonstrative
In the backdrop are her child hood
impressions viz
(SRI 263)Delusion, deserted, forsaken is
(SRI546) Forsaken feeling
(SRI 570) Grief, undemonstrative (on her
husband’s death and the boy’s accident)
In these rubrics also Cyclamen appears;
in first two it is in second grade.
She was given Cyclamen 200 one dose on
22-12-92. She started improving and was
doing better for nearly 3 months with less
itching and reduction of psoriasis on her
neck and ears; When her psoriasis
became worse and her sleep was
disturbed, 10 doses of the remedy were
repeated in March 1993 and later the
potency raised to 1M in April. She
improved a lot and when her itching was
severe and her sciatica returned she was
given another dose of Cyclamen 1M in
May 93 and she remained well thereafter.
She was able to handle her tension better
and place herself in the shoes of the
parents seeking admissions to understand
their anxiety and concern.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 5:12 PM - Karuppaiah Dr: Indifference and Cyclamen
Dr.Farokh Master

Consider the repertory rubric, "Indifference, apathy in menop ause" and the remedy Cyclamen that appears in this rubric. Cyclamen belongs to the Primulaceae botanical family (Anagallis and Primula are other remedies of the Primulaceae family used in homeopathy). The symptom pattern of Cyclamen is frequently seen during menopause. The Cyclamen patient has a strong desire to live a perfect, meticulous, duty-conscious life. Unfortunately, while performing her duties, she becomes hypersensitive to the slightest mistake or defect. Eventually, this ruins her whole life. She has a tendency to paint a darker picture of situations confronting her, adopting a guilt-ridden attitude of self-reproach. She feels that her family and everyone around are dependent on her and that she bears moral responsibility for the world. The Cyclamen patient is conscientious and dedicated to each and every member of her family, so she feels responsible for any wrongful act (intentional or unintentional) to them. You will find Cyclamen in the repertory rubrics: "Delusion, committed a crime," "Delusion neglected their duty," "Delusion has done wrong."

In her delusion of neglecting others and her feeling of self-reproach, she becomes sad, but is unable to express her emotions. She doesn't complain to anybody, preferring to weep from within while putting up a smiling, brave front and dutifully performing her responsibilities. This state can also occur when a woman is sexually abused or there is a history of severe grief. (One way to understand the Cyclamen mental state is to combine the symptom pictures of the remedies Natrum muriaticum and Aurum metallicum.)

The patient needing Cyclamen will often have a strong aggravation from as well as desire for fat. She craves lots of acids and sour things, as well as salted fish. She is usually thirstless (even more so than Pulsatilla). If you ask about her previous menstrual history, she will typically tell you that her menses have been copious, early, and clotted. With her menopausal symptoms, you will often find headache and nausea.

1. A state of great suffering and distress due to adversity.
2.A condition of suffering or distress due to I'll health.
3. A cause of great suffering and distress.

2. Very intense.

Now, we can understand meaning of the rubric.

I think, if a person met a frequent death in his family had great distress and get the above state.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 6:06 PM - Murali Castro: Case

A 65 year old woman consulted Dr Logan
for depression, panic attacks, indigestion,
a sore mouth and a permanent bad taste;
a mapped tongue with a fissure. She was
too nervous to travel out of her hometown
on her own. She felt exhausted and
despondent and woke up every day feeling
drained and unenthusiastic. She had dark
rings under her eyes and had been taking
Valium for years.
She was depressed and grief stricken
because she lost her husband, her sister,
and a close aunt during the course of last
five years; besides, her daughter was
having trouble with her marriage. She felt
very alone in her grief and found it
impossible to share her grief with anyone
even if she had an opportunity. ( Grief:
undemonstrative and feeling forsaken )
She was upset about allowing herself to
fall sick like that, as she put it.
( Reproaches herself) She described
herself in work as "far too conscientious
for her own good" and elaborated by
saying that "she hated letting people
down". ( Conscientious about trifles ). She
also said that her moods alternated a lot
( moods alternating); she was constantly
analyzing herself and her actions.
( Introspection). Initially, the doctor gave
Natrum-mur in varying potencies but it
did not relieve. The patient also had other
remedies such as Aurum, Ignatia, Puls,
Lyco and Muriatic- acid which seemed
indicated but did not help the patient at
all.
When the indicated remedy Cyclamen was
given there was noticeable change. She
was less depressed and had more energy
and no panic attacks. She got up feeling
refreshed and did not think about how she
is feeling, the way in which she used to
do earlier. Her sore mouth was also much
better

essence of Cyclamen , as emphasized by

stressed by Logan, enable us to
understand the essence.
Criminal, that he is a;
Crime, as if he had committed;
Persecuted, that he is;
Wrong, fancies he has done;
Neglected his duty, he has;
These feelings, along with self-reproach,
come out very strongly in all the cases
that we will discuss in this study and
more particularly, in cases of Dr Rajan
Sankaran and Dr Falguni Kharewala. Other
features are also seen in some cases; in
two cases, the patients were fastidious
and very good at work and hence
‘ conscientious about trifles ’.
The grief of these patients is of the type
which is completely suppressed and
unexpressed; grief which is expressed
only when alone or grieves such that
others are not aware of it; puts up a brave
face in company, like Ignatia . Cyclamen
can be called a female Aurum ; but unlike
Aurum, Cyclamen will not contemplate
suicide even in their deepest depression
or despair, and one can see that it does
not appear in the rubrics "Suicidal",
"desires death" or "presentiment of
death".
Patient’s observations and expressions in
clinical practice which guide to this
remedy are:
"I hate letting people down; it can worry
me for days" ( Conscientious );
"I wish I could be less preoccupied with
myself" ( Reproaches himself);
"I have always been reserved
emotionally" ( Grief undemonstrative );
"I am too hard on myself; a friend let me
down recently and I found myself blaming
myself; I felt that I must have done
something to cause it" ( Reproaches
himself);
"I have a friend who is suffering from
depression and I feel it is my duty to visit
her everyday and give her my support. It
is draining me, but I could not cope with
the guilt if I did not go every
day" ( Delusion, neglected his duty, he
has );
"You can’t write off people just like
that" ( Delusion, neglected his duty, he
has );
"I have never done much entertaining
because I like to do things perfectly and
our conditions have never allowed
that" ( Conscientious, about trifles );
"I have always found it difficult to do
nothing. There is always the thought at
the back of my mind of what I should be
doing."

Cyclamen is predominantly a woman’s
remedy and closely allied to Puls. It is
often called "chilly Puls ". This remedy can
be said to be a cross between Puls and
Natrum-mur . They are less soft and less
dependent than Puls and have more self-
sufficiency and independence (Logan).
The distinguishing points are:
Temperature: Cyclamen has a strong
aggravation from fresh air or a difference
in temperature. Though some Puls
patients can be quite chilly and
aggravated from cold, but they always
want fresh air.
Thirst: Cyclamen tends to be thirsty
opposite Puls .
Visual disturbances: are very
characteristic ie flickering in front of eyes;
shooting of light; foggy vision; double
vision etc. These accompany many of the
complaints.
Great tendency for menses to be
suppressed, tending towards
amenorrhoea. Dysmenorrhoea is quite
severe and sometimes described as if
they are ‘almost going into labour’.
Menses are often clotted and dark; too
early and too profuse. ( Puls -delayed and
scanty menses). Tendency to anaemia.
Cyclamen can be effective in migraine
headaches. Arthritis may be prominent in
feet, ankles and heels.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 8:19 PM - Murali Castro: Cyclamen like Puls is predominantly a
female remedy (though Hahnemann
proved it on males only) with its
characteristic chlorotic and menstrual
complaints. Here is a beautiful case of Dr
Falguni Khariwala, where the remedy
cured a male patient who exhibited the
same mental symptoms.

Case :
Mr B, aged 35, came for the treatment of
severe attacks of bronchial asthma, with
cough, chest pain, backache and fever
aggravated by coughing. There was
severe wheezing and the patient was very
sickly.
The patient was found to be mild and
reserved and seemed to be under intense
grief. The doctor noted the peculiar
movement of his eyes moving rapidly
between the doctor and his assistant, and
it was accentuated whenever the doctor
probed into his mind symptoms; the
patient also had tears in his eyes when
this was being probed. Despite much
persuasion, he would not disclose the
reasons for his grief and hence his wife
was asked to come for an interview. The
wife said that she and her mother-in-law
were frequently quarrelling and when there
was a quarrel, the patient would be very
much affected. He would not utter a word
and would go to his room, close the
windows and lie down. The next day he
would get his asthmatic attacks. She had
to apologize and pacify him. He was very
duty conscious and would work very hard
and would not take leave.
On the next visit, when asked how his
wife and mother got along with each
other, he did not reply, but his eyes were
full of tears and his eye movements were
rapid. He ultimately said that when they
quarreled he was helpless and could not
side with one or the other, even though he
knew that his mother was mostly in the
wrong. He said that in such cases he
would go to his room and lie down. His
wife added that even during his asthmatic
attacks or during quarrels he would close
the doors and windows. He would insist
on closing the windows and doors even
when he returned from his office. He was
not inclined to go out but preferred to
stay indoors.
Physicals: weakness in his knees since
3-4 years; appetite is decreased;
thirstlessness and offensive sweat without
staining; a chilly patient.
The rubrics taken for repertorisation:
1. Grief, undemonstrative.
2. Delusion, criminal he is Delusion, crime
committed he has (rapid eye movement
and insistence to close the windows)
3. Anxiety of conscience as if guilty of a
crime (unable to reconcile mother and
wife)
4. Going out aversion to
5. Occupation amel
6. Mild
7. Brooding
8. Reserved
Taking also the physical generals (great
lassitude esp. in the evening and with
painful weariness and stiffness in the
legs), Cyclamen emerges as the
similimum. 1M one dose. Next day-no
fever, no chest pain and no backache;
cough and breathlessness better. Appetite
restored. The medicine was repeated two
days later in the same potency and within
10 days of treatment, the patient was
much better and had no breathlessness,
cough and no asthma attack, remained
well even after 4 months (no further follow
up given). There was slight pain in his
knees.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 9:09 PM - Murali Castro: Case of cyclamen

 The patient was
a woman who was doing well under Puls
1M but was only 70% better and was not
fully cured. Her complaints (not given)
relapsed and increased in intensity and
during the follow-up stated that she felt
guilty that she did not stop her mother
from complaining against her father who
was ill at that time and was dying. She
felt morally wrong. She did not have those
kinds of emotions before. She flushed and
wept while narrating the symptoms. She
wanted to be alone and lying in bed allyy
day (a characteristic of this remedy).
Talks loudly, even when alone. She had
aversion to fats and desire for open air.hg
Her complaints were relieved only after
administration of Cyclamen 1M. In this
case the desire for open air, which is
characteristic of Puls was present but did
not contra-indicate the remedy as theiryhh
main essence in this case is her mental
concomitant of guilty feeling as if she had
committed a crime.

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 9:37 PM - Murali Castro: Dr Deborah A Collins  refers in her
article to the similar situations of two
women who were cured with this
remedy. Both were very concerned with
their health and any mention of disease
was enough to frighten them; one had a
fear of heart attack while the other of
apoplexy. During such panic attacks they
would be dizzy and their vision was
blurred or they would see flashes or
coloured spots. On walking unsupported,
they found everything outside seemed to
wobble, but a gentle touch on the
shoulders removed that complaint. This
often ended in headache. Both had good
marriages and their husbands were the
understanding types. One woman was
very fastidious and strived to do
everything perfectly. She, being a
schoolteacher with a class of 30 pupils,
would say it was her fault if one child
lagged behind in study. It took a long
time for her to decide to have a child of
her own, as she was afraid that she might
in someway cause damage to the unborn
child. She felt responsible to hold the
family together. For her, death meant
losing touch contact with her husband
and family. She was given Cyclamen in
LM doses and her headaches and visual
problems vanished and she became much
less fastidious and less critical of herself
for the failure of her students.

The other woman patient expressed her
sense of duty like this: "I can never allow
myself to take it easy in the house; I must
clean the house everyday and make sure
there are fresh fruits and vegetables. I
would never forget a birthday. I am very
accurate about getting photographs in
their proper place and sequence in their
album. My children’s clothes are always
neat and in good repair." (Conscientious
about trifles) This patient also felt guilty
when her son had a tiff with his girlfriend.
Cyclamen also helped her a great deal.
It is significant to note in this connection,
the botanical properties of this plant.
"Cyclamen plants grow sheltered in the
root system of large trees. Unlike most
plants, which tend to scatter their seeds
far, Cyclamen holds on to its seeds for
almost a year, until they are ready to
germinate, and then spirals them down
and plants them in the ground, firmly
beside herself."

Wed, 26 Aug 2015, 11:25 PM - Murali Castro: Case 3:

A 25-year-old woman consulted Dr
Deborah Collins for stiffness and pain in
her neck from which she was suffering for
the past 15 years. Her right arm had
become weak and she got cramps while
using that arm and hence could not write
more than 4 lines about her complaint.
The pain and stiffness were better by
warmth and massage. There was
weakness in her feet and also some
trembling; sensation of paralysis in both
the limbs with cramping pain. She also
reported to having a tendency to faint and
seeing stars before her eyes. Coupled
with these complaints, she got back pain,
which made it impossible to walk. She felt
as if she was worthless.
Her life situation revealed that she
suspected that her parents were not her
real parents and wanted to see the
marriage certificate to confirm that, even
when she was only 7years old. She
revealed a tremendous guilt feeling when
talking about her complaints. She said
that her parents were always quarrelling
and she felt tossed between the two, for
which she blamed herself. She blamed
herself even for others’ mistakes. She
also experienced weakness after taking
contraceptive pills; had weakness and
irritability and diarrhoea alternating with
constipation for some time after the first
child. Other symptoms were intolerance of
sun, desire for open air, desire for smoked
meat and aversion to sweets, fats and
beer. Thirstless during day time but
thirsty in the evening. All her complaints
were worse on the right side and sleep
was unrefreshing. Worse in cold wet
weather and storms. She wept while
telling her symptoms and weeps easily.
There was a history of TB on the maternal
side. She had hormonal problems and
continuous milk secretion for 3 years after
the first child.
The remedies considered were Puls, Tub
and Cyclamen. The first two medicines
repeated after every two months did not
give relief. She then developed some
more symptoms: vertigo with dim sight,
spots and flickering before her eyes. In
the meantime she got pregnant again; she
became terribly weak as had happened in
the first pregnancy. There was a history of
premature labour pains in her family
( such labour pains before menses is
another symptom of this remedy ) and the
patient feared that because of that the
child might be born prematurely and
would have congenital defects. She also
felt guilty that she was not able to look
after her other two children and said that
she was no good at all.
She was prescribed Cyclamen on the
basis of the rubrics: Delusion alone in the
world; anxiety of conscience; aversion to
going out; undemonstrative grief; offended
easily; reproaches herself; pain upper
limbs, right side; pain, cramping, right
knee; and chest milk in non-pregnant
woman. One dose of the remedy in 30
potency was given. With that dose, all her
complaints disappeared after 2 days.
Three months after that dose she
developed premature labour pains at
about 30 week which was tackled by
Viburnum-opulus and Aletris-farinosa .
The delivery was normal and her
constitutional remedy was Cyclamen
which was repeated in 1M three times
whenever there was relapse of her
complaints. The follow-up over a five year
period showed that she had been in good
health since then.

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 6:27 AM - Karuppaiah Dr: A STUDY OF MATERIA MEDICA
CHOUDHURI N. M.
Cyclamen europaeum CYCLAMEN
Cyclamen is the Sow-bread, a plant indigenous to the south of Europe.  It was extensively used for medicinal purpose by the ancients.  "It used to be considered that the root of Cyclamen applied externally, hastened difficult labor, and assuaged the pains : also that to touch Cyclamen, or to take it internally, would produce abortion and bring on premature labor."   It is very similar to Pulsatilla particularly in its relation to the female sexual system.  Like Pulsatilla it is suited to phlegmatic temperament.  There is the same aversion and disinclination to work, the same ill-humoured moroseness and the same tendency to take offence at trifles.  It differs from Pulsatilla in not having the amelioration from open air and the thirstlessness of that remedy.  Mentally, these patients suffer from terrors of conscience.  They grieve over duty neglected.  There is also a great craving for solitude, and weeping affords them decided relief.  They also suffer from a peculiar illusion of being deserted or persecuted by everybody.  It has been used with success in mental derangement during climaxis, when the patient becomes extremely indifferent.  This indifference gradually deepens and leads the patient finally to a state of total extinction of consciousness, when even questions are not answered, and stools and urine are passed involuntarily and unconsciously.     Its action on the female sexual system is as profound as in Pulsatilla; the menstruation comes too early and it brings a certain amount of relief to her melancholy.  The menses are profuse, black, membraneous, and clotted.  Like Pulsatilla again we find intense labor like pains commencing in small of back and running down each side of abdomen to pubis.  It is, therefore, as great a remedy for dysmenorrhoea as our Pulsatilla.  The only difference is, as has been hinted at before, dread of fresh air.  We think of it, also in menstrual irregularities with megrim and blindness.  Leucorrhoea in blonde leuco-phlegmatic subjects with retarded or scanty menstruation need not always be given Pulsatilla.  Cyclamen is just as often indicated in these conditions as that remedy, and like Pulsatilla under similar conditions, it meets chlorosis and anaemia Buzzing in the region of the heart, tumultuous action of the heart, great lassitude, and a sensation of something alive running in the heart are symptoms that meet in Cyclamen a ready help.  Cyclamen also relieves hiccough during pregnancy.  Before finishing we must not omit to mention that Cyclamen relieves burning sore pain in heels, and that it has a peculiar sensation about anus and perinaeum as if a spot were suppurating.

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: லிஸ்லேலரின் சிறப்பான பங்களிப்பு, பிறழ் நம்பிக்கைகளை வகைப்படுத்தி,அதன். அடிப்படையில் பல மருந்துகளை விளக்கியதே.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: Liz lalor maintains that, the delusion rubrics can be invoked in a case analysis, if the following four prerequisites have been noted in the patients case development.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: 1. Evidence that the patient has notable inner conflict and evidence is self destruction and pathology which is proof of the need for a delusion rubric to be used in repertorisation

2.Evidence that the patient has used the psychological delusion in a disproportionate way to misinterpret reality.

3. Evidence that the delusional stance is maintained by the patient because it is to the advantage  to delude themselves of reality.

4.The never well since event confirming the primary psychodynamic trauma.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: லி.லேர்  பிறழ் நம்பிக்கைக் குறிமொழிகளை ஐந்து வகைகளாகப் பிரித்திருக்கிறார்

1. Denial

2.forsaken

3.causation

4.depression

5.resignation

27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: லி.பேர். ஒவ்வொரு வகைக்கும் உதாரணங்களும் தந்திருக்கிறார்.

1.DENIAL

I am not sick
I will be cured
I will cure myself
I should not have got sick
This should not have happened to me.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: 2.FORSAKEN

My body has let me down(abandonment)
My illness has been caused by others (persecution)
I have been singled out for punishment(abandonment and persecution)
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: 4.DEPRESSION

I will never become well
I will never succeed
I will always fail
This is my fate
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: 3.CAUSATION

This is my fault
I have been bad
I have sinned
This is my fault
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: 5.RESIGNATION
I am dying
I am sure i have cancer
I am too weak to survive this world
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: மேற் சொன்ன, ஐந்து வகைபாடுகளின் அடிப்படையில் ஸைக்ளாமனையும் காட்சிப் படுத்துகிறார.

Liz lalor says that many delusional rubrics of abandonment and original sin are listed in cyclamen.cyclamen want to remain in their solitude because they are overwhelmed by real or perceived imaginings of original sin.significantly rubrics pertaining to grandeur are not listed under cyclamen.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:12 AM - Ravichandaran: Cyclamen easily fall into the habit of predicting their own failure. It remains numb by gloom and doom about their fate

They believe that gray troubles had just come over him

They also believe that they should remain alone in the world and isolated from the rest of the humanity

Cyclamen resist and avoid treatment and self sabotage homeopathic treatment because  they want to indulge in self deprecating guilt
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:30 AM - Balasubramanian: 👏👏👏

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:46 AM - Murali Castro: தோழரே !

புறசூழல் தான் அகசூழலை தீர்மானிக்கின்றனவா?
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:50 AM - Ravichandaran: Similar to causticum , cyclamen feels overly responsible for their crimes.

They are so distraught with the fear at the thought of having to face their real or perceived sins that they are paralysed

Exaggerated perceptions of guilt perpetuate persecution complexes.

The cyclamen will not want to talk or confront their real or perceived  delusions of original sins .

Causticum punish themselves by perpetuating and intensifying internal anxiety and anguish.

Cyclamen punish themselves by inflicting pain.

Cyclamen have the mind rubric Anorexia nervosa

Cyclamen like starving themselves so they can loose conscious awareness.  As they have delusions " deprived of his senses.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 11:50 AM - Ravichandaran: Liz lalor ,finally gives a bit of advice to homeopaths

The homeopaths working with a cyclamen patient needs to do a lotvof counselling around helping them forgive themselves for their real or perceived sins committed

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 12:27 PM - Arulmanikam: MIND - GRIEF - undemonstrative  vs   MIND - GRIEF - silent********** can you please explain ?
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 12:32 PM - Arulmanikam: can you please differentiate the ignatia and cylamen grief?
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 12:40 PM - Sivakumuran Dr: <Media omitted>
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 12:48 PM - Sivakumuran Dr: Its only for abuses of homeopathic potencies...

 Crude drug's and narcotics etc....

Like nuxvomica and many more if symptoms corresponding...
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:01 PM - Murali Castro: @dr.Arulmanickam
Silent grief bottles it up.
Undemonstrative hides it in public,
expresses it in private -
possibly very un-silently.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:16 PM - Murali Castro: Case

A 65 year old woman consulted Dr Logan
for depression, panic attacks, indigestion,
a sore mouth and a permanent bad taste;
a mapped tongue with a fissure. She was
too nervous to travel out of her hometown
on her own. She felt exhausted and
despondent and woke up every day feeling
drained and unenthusiastic. She had dark
rings under her eyes and had been taking
Valium for years.
She was depressed and grief stricken
because she lost her husband, her sister,
and a close aunt during the course of last
five years; besides, her daughter was
having trouble with her marriage. She felt
very alone in her grief and found it
impossible to share her grief with anyone
even if she had an opportunity. ( Grief:
undemonstrative and feeling forsaken )
She was upset about allowing herself to
fall sick like that, as she put it.
( Reproaches herself) She described
herself in work as "far too conscientious
for her own good" and elaborated by
saying that "she hated letting people
down". ( Conscientious about trifles ). She
also said that her moods alternated a lot
( moods alternating); she was constantly
analyzing herself and her actions.
( Introspection). Initially, the doctor gave
Natrum-mur in varying potencies but it
did not relieve. The patient also had other
remedies such as Aurum, Ignatia, Puls,
Lyco and Muriatic- acid which seemed
indicated but did not help the patient at
all.
When the indicated remedy Cyclamen was
given there was noticeable change. She
was less depressed and had more energy
and no panic attacks. She got up feeling
refreshed and did not think about how she
is feeling, the way in which she used to
do earlier. Her sore mouth was also much
better

- Robin Logan, Homoeopathic Links

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:29 PM - Ravichandaran: In our group discussion, the very same query was raised by my friend Balaji
We tried to understand and distinguish the ignatia grief from that of cyclamen  by the following
If it is useful u can take it.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:30 PM - Arulmanikam: MIND - GRIEF - undemonstrative  vs   MIND - GRIEF - silent, can you tell me the exact explanation with patient common version instead of short direct meaning.if possible explain it with patient version and then only everybody will understand the exact meaning.
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:30 PM - Ravichandaran: Ignatia has the delusion that she is lost, everything is lost.:they are unable to be saved when they become sick regardless of it is a major ailment or a minor one.

It has ailments from shame
It hears voices and illusions of fancy
The similimum will not be ignatia if the hysteria and collapse is across all levels, emotionally, mentally and physically

Ignatia is crippled and broken by all tragedy

Ignatia believes she is deceived, that life is unfair to him

She feels she is being mocked at
She feels that she has been trapped that she is ruined
And doomed
Cries and rages that the soul cannot be saved.

Cyclamen and ignatia has the delusions that they have neglected the duty and committed a crime.

But ignatia has advanced neurosis than cyclamen that is my understanding.
She feels her body is brittle and her legs are not her legs and dshe cannot walk.
Ignatia griefvis she is irredeemably lost.
Whereas in cyclamen it is her perpetuation of the guilt that is somewhat comfortable to her
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:36 PM - Arulmanikam: ok sir  you have explained the other rubric linked with the remedy but  i want the differentiation between from silent and undemonstrative grief in common patient version or practically how they appeared in cases .
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:47 PM - Ravichandaran: Sir. My repertorial knowledge is very limited. The synthesis has under grief head rubric , both silent and undemonstrative.
Against undemonstrative it says. .... See silent

Under silent sub rubric ,ignatia and nat mur are in bold letters
Cyclamen given in italics
Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 1:58 PM - Arulmanikam: in repertory both rubric appear similar but if you got to the final court materia medica ,it is distinguished from each other.

Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 10:56 PM - Ravichandaran:

உயிருள்ள பறவைக்கு எறும்பு உணவு;
